What Made Gen Z: The Ultimate Timeline (1997-2015)

A lot has been written about Baby Boomers, and even Gen X and Millennials get quite a bit of love. But what about the world’s youngest generation? Where are their timelines and nostalgia articles?

Born between 1997 and the late 2010s, Gen Z is the generation defined by the War on Terror, social media, and climate change.

Yet, as with every generation, the big events only tell half the story of what guides an age group to maturity.

So, from hit songs and top TV shows and movies to pivotal pop culture events and toys, this list looks at everything that characterized the childhoods of today’s youth.

Also, for each year, I’ve added the average US prices for commodities such as a gallon of milk and a home. For comparison, I’ve listed the prices in 2023 dollars below.
